  4. a centre of pilgrimage. Many sick people

  6. spring there were said to have been cured.
  7. Feast day 16 Apr. The grotto of Massabielle
  8. was opened to the public by command of
  9. Napoleon III, and a church built on the rock
  10. above became a shrine. At the age of 20
  11. Bernadette became a nun at Nevers, and nursed
  12. the wounded of the Franco-Prussian War.
